Lagos, Portugal, 9-10th March 2011: workshops about "Robots and animals" at the "Live Science"
On the 9th and 10th March, at the Live Science Center of Lagos, in Portugal, Fausto Ferreira, a CNR-IEIIT researcher and collaborator of School of Robotics, was coordinating workshops of robotics for young students from 6 to 14 years old.

The main subject of the workshops was the analogies between some animals' senses and the sensors of the robots. The workshops were organized in the frame of the program "Holidays with Science" by Cincia Viva in Lagos (this week schools are in holidays in Portugal becuase of the  Carnival).

The workshops proposed by School of Robotics are of two types, in order to suit better the age of the students involved.
The workshop "Robots' Zoo" is proposed to students of elementary school.  The other, called "The robots' enigma" is dedicated to older students. The first one is focused on learning how the robots acquire informations, and comparing it with the animal world. Thanks to this, kids could easily understand ultrasounds functioning and infrared light's behaviour. The workshop proposed to older students requires that the public discover the functionality of some small educational robots and in that way allows to discuss several issues, such as programming, mechanics, roboethics, etc.
