FIRST Global Challenge for the oceans from 24 to 27 October 2019 in Dubai.

From 24 to 27 October 2019 a team of students from the Istituto Superiore Statale Liceti in Rapallo (Genoa) will participate in the FIRST Global Challenge to be held in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.
The FIRST Global Challenge is an annual event that involves representatives from over 186 countries for a total of 2500 young people and 800 volunteers from all over the world. The event is organized by FIRST Global (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), a non-profit organization that promotes the learning of STEM subjects through the organization of school contests of global importance.
Each year the organizer chooses a theme of global interest and participants must study innovative and technological systems to address these challenges. For the 2019 edition, the theme 'Ocean opportunities' has been chosen and the selected teams will have to learn to face challenges related to ocean cleaning.
Students from the Liceti Institute in Rapallo have been selected to participate as representatives of our country thanks to the 'Hydrocarbot' project presented during the last Robotics Olympics, organized by the School of Robotics and the Ministry of Education, University and Research.
During the 2019 Robotics Olympics, the project of the Liceti Institute in Rapallo won first place in the 'water' category thanks to its concreteness and feasibility.
Thanks to this project, the students have been guests of various events of national and international importance such as Futura Genova, the European Robotics League 2019 and the Maker Faire 2019.
The team, composed of Luca De Ponti, Giorgio Bernardini, Alberto Conte, Tommaso Pavletic, Matilde Avanzino and Giorgia Boitano and coordinated by Professor Giovanni Dodero, will participate in the FIRST Global Challenge with the support of the School of Robotics and the patronage of the Liguria Region. Ilaria Cavo, Regional Councillor for Communication, Training, Youth and Cultural Policies, comments: "The 'Hydrocarbot' project is the result of good Ligurian practices. The project was born in the context of the "Capitani Coraggiosi" initiative, within the framework of Salone Orientamenti 2018, and continued thanks to the work of a group active at the Istituto Liceti in Rapallo which, among other things, also collaborates with the Progetto Scuola Digitale di Regione Liguria".
Scuola di Robotica is First Global's partner for the selection of the team that will participate in the event and from 2019-2020 First® global is part of the Technical and Scientific Committee of the Robotic Olympics. the team that won the 2019-2020 Olympics will participate in First Global 2020.
Scuola di Robotica is a non-profit association founded in 2000 by a group of robotics and human scientists. The main objective of Scuola di Robotica is the promotion of culture through education, training, education, and dissemination of the arts and sciences involved in the process of developing robotics and new technologies.
Over the years Scuola di Robotica has become a national and international reference point for many research activities and applications of robotics in various areas of society such as education, ecology, disability, and many others.
Scuola di Robotica is a partner of many European projects and since 2008 has been certified as a training body by the Ministry of Education, University and Research for the updating of teaching staff.
The Liceti Institute is a high school in Rapallo with many subjects of study: Liceo Scientifico, Istituto Tecnico, Istituto Professionale - Industria e Artigianato, since 2010 it has been pursuing a policy aimed at educational, methodological and technological innovation that has led it to be a school of reference at national level for various initiatives in this regard, the most recent being FuturaRapallo and FuturaGenova.
At the Liceti Institute, courses in robotics are organized independently and in relation to other stakeholders from 2014, both extracurricular and in the curriculum, and robotic competitions.
