Thanks to "The Heart of Santa NEVER forgets" the NAO robot plays with the little patients of the complex Operative Unit of Pediatric Neurology and Muscular Diseases of the "G. Gaslini" of Genoa.

The robot NAO, Alfio 3 from the small patients of the Complex Operative Unit of Pediatric Neurology and Muscular Diseases of the "G. Gaslini" IRCCS Pediatric Institute in Genoa, a project supported by the association "Il Cuore di Santa non dimentica mai MAI" (Il Cuore di Sanata NEVER forgets) of Santa Margherita Ligure directed by Stefania Mai, and accepted with active interest and collaboration by Prof. Pasquale Striano, by Dr. Maria Francesca Aiello, Dr. Michela Sole, psychologist, and by the student in Medicine Leonardo Magliulo, with the collaboration of the School of Robotics' Andrea Fui, is in progress at the complex Operative Unit of Pediatric Neurology and Muscular Diseases of the IRCCS Pediatric Institute "G. Gaslini" of Genoa, with the collaboration of the School of Robotics

The project involves the use of a small humanoid robot NAO (named Alfio 3), for several sessions of playful interaction with the little patients.

Indeed, today there is an interesting literature on the benefits of using robots to support the teaching of Special Needs as well as on their use in Pediatric Institutes or Departments to alleviate patients' state of suffering and distress.

But the project started a few weeks ago at the Gaslini is undoubtedly unique, for the medical and specialist team that has formed steadily around the trials and for the duration of the same. We asked the project partners to describe the birth and the first steps of the experimentation.

Read the project protagonists' statements in the article below, and how the project is going on.
