PROGETTO TOUCH: "Please, Touch the Art" project continues, entering in the heart of its second phase.
Promoted by Cooperativa Sociale Il Laboratorio e Istituto David Chiossone onlus for the blind and visually impaired, in partnership with Scuola di Robotica, Galleria Nazionale Palazzo Spinola, Palazzo Reale, Cooperativa Solidarietà e Lavoro and with the funding of Compagnia di San Paolo, as part of the "Open 2016 Innovative Projects of Audience Engagement" call for proposals, this route aims to facilitate visits to museums for children and adolescents, with the aim of promoting the following activity: "Open 2016 Innovative Projects of Audience Engagement".
In its first phase TOUCH involved 184 children and 24 teachers from five primary and secondary schools in Genoa (Baliano, Garaventa-Gallo, Vittorino-Bernini, Don Milani and Maria Mazzini). After several actions (visits to the National Gallery of Palazzo Spinola and the Madlab scientific popularization laboratory, experience in Dialogo nel Buio), the children have reproduced some of the most significant works of the National Gallery of Palazzo Spinola through a drawing workshop, realized in every single class, to experiment the artistic activity as a moment of discovery of our heritage, without ever forgetting the important theme of tactile perception.
The drawings are in fact the starting point of the TOUCH project, which enters into this second phase. The transition from 2D to 3D comes with the print lab built with the support of Madlab staff. The teenagers will have the task of reworking, with special software, children's drawings and, through innovative techniques such as photogrammetry, will produce tactile aids: true reproductions of works of art printed in 3D to give everyone, even blind people, the possibility of being able to touch art with their own hands. The National Gallery of Palazzo Spinola will be the first museum in Genoa to have tactile aids made with the 3D printer and, consequently, to open new projects to make our artistic heritage more and more inclusive.
At the same time, a course for museum operators has been launched by the David Chiossone Institute, which, using the dialogue in the dark format, will aim to improve the reception of a public with visual disabilities. The course involved 12 museum operators from 5 museums (Castello D' Albertis-Museo delle Culture del Mondo, Palazzo Reale, Galleria Nazionale di Palazzo Spinola, Musei di Strada Nuova, Museo di Storia Naturale, GAM-Museums di Nervi) and 3 libraries (Lercari Library, Biblioteca Bruschi, Biblioteca Internazionale Edmondo De Amicis).
The final objective of the training course is to activate new projects for the creation of museum paths suitable for visually impaired and/or blind people.
